The Curse of Billy Penn

For 21 years, no Philadelphia sports team won a major championship after One Liberty Place surpassed City Hall in height in 1987 — breaking a gentlemen's agreement never to build higher than the statue of William Penn atop City Hall. The "curse" was finally broken when a miniature Penn figurine was placed atop the Comcast Center in 2007. The Phillies won the World Series the next year.
