The LOVE Sculpture: Philly's Most Photographed Spot
by team6 months agoart
Robert Indiana's iconic LOVE sculpture has stood in JFK Plaza (now universally called "Love Park") since the 1976 Bicentennial, when it was first placed here on loan; after a brief removal it was bought and reinstalled in 1978. The design dates to the mid-1960s and the aluminum sculpture to 1970. It features the letters L and O stacked above V and E, with the O distinctively tilted. It is among the most photographed pieces of public art in the city. Indiana's work appears elsewhere in Philadelphia too: another LOVE sculpture stands on the Penn campus in University City, and a Spanish-language AMOR sits in Sister Cities Park.
