One of five original open-space parks planned by William Penn in 1682, Rittenhouse Square is the social heart of Philadelphia. Named after David Rittenhouse, the first director of the US Mint, the park hosts a weekly farmers market, annual spring flower market, and the beloved Fine Art Show every June and September. On warm evenings, you'll find jazz musicians, chess players, and wine-sipping locals who treat the park like their backyard.
