Tucked under the I-95 overpass in South Philly, John's Roast Pork is where Philadelphians in the know go for a cheesesteak many rank as the city's best — and a roast pork sandwich with a national reputation. In 2006 the James Beard Foundation named the shop one of its America's Classics; its signature is the roast pork Italian with sharp provolone and broccoli rabe. They keep daytime hours only, closing in the late afternoon, and the line wraps around the building by 11 AM.
